Microsoft Windows 7 Sells Like Hot Cakes, Profits Up 48%
It seems that Microsoft is getting that edge back once again with its sales of the Windows 7 operating system reaching nearly 10 copies per second over the previous month, the company state.
According to Peter Klein, Microsoft’s CFO, “With 175 million licenses sold to date, it is the fastest selling operating system ever, and now runs on over 15% of all PCs worldwide.” Indeed, it is a sharp contrast to the apparent failure of the Windows Vista system which has brought up much reason for complaint following its release.
It seems that Microsoft had scored a 48% increase in profits during the fourth fiscal quarter. These were mainly based on the hot-selling Windows and Office products. However, their attempts to infiltrate the mobile phone and search markets were not quite as successful. A net income of $4.5 billion was reported for the quarter ended June 30.
However, in spite of the PC operating system’s success, there are concerns that the Windows 7 OS may not be as suitable for tablet PCs. It seems that they have some work to do before they will be able to catch up with Apple’s iPad, which has sold over three million copies using the same OS that was developed for the iPhone.
