Firefox Auto Updates Coming Soon in Browser Battle

After getting a lot of complaints from users due to consistent calls to update with the instalment of security patches, browser-building giant Mozilla has decided to take the path tread on by Google and Adobe in implementing auto-updates which do not bother the users.

The new update will be released in Firefox 4, and is the subject of a lot of anticipation. According to Firefox principal designer Alex Faaborg, “I think the majority of users would prefer an application that doesn’t bother them with what they view as little details, where a little detail is a minor update. We get a lot of complaints that Firefox updates too often, people can’t see the difference with the new version (it was actually a security patch), that we change our mind too much and should just ship one version (it was actually a security patch), etc.”

Google has previously sparked criticisms with its auto-update mechanism for the Google Chrome as users have no say on the updates whatsoever. However, in contrast, Firefox is planning to allow users to decide whether they want to use auto-updates or manual updates in the new version as they desire.
