In an explosive first half that saw Japan take the lead by 2 with Keisuke Honda scoring the first in the 17th minute by converting a 30 yard free kick. Barely 13 minute’s later Yasuhito Endo converted another free kick from the 25 yard mark meanwhile Denmark failed to convert the few chances they had.

In the second half despite desperate attempts on the Japanese goal the Danes could not find the target. In the other match tonight in group E Cameroon and Netherlands already assured of there destiny, Netherlands with 2 wins to advance and Cameroon already consigned to a trip home, it would have been easy for both teams to relax and take it easy however this was not the case as both teams put on a fighting display.

Cameroon came out fighting and nearly took an early lead, Netherlands wer not feilding an under par team in lite of their confirmed position at the top of the group but rather a full strength team. Netherlands struck the first goal in the 36th minute Robin Van Persie coolly slipped the ball into the Japanese net. In the 65th minute Samuel Eto’o converted a penalty awarded after Van der Vaart handled the ball in the area, the balance of power seemed to have shifted. However Cameroon were denied even a draw after Klaas Jan Huntelaar collected Rigobert Song’s rebounded shot and converted it with a calm perfectly placed right foot shot.

Netherlands now meet Slovakia in the next round on the 28th June.
