Miroslav Klose provided the first glimpse of the eventual outcome of this after noons game when he open Germany’s book when he brute forced his way through the Englkand central defense to collect a long goal kick and push the ball past Jame’s in the 20th minute despite a long period of possession by England.
12 minutes later Lukas Podolski squeezed a poorly control pass from Meuller between the England keepers legs and inside the far post in the 32nd minute. England replied 5 minutes later when Matt Upson got himself on the end of a quickly taken corner kick and headed the ball into the net passed an out of position keeper. The talking point of the match for years to come, no doubt, happened 60 seconds later when a Frank Lampard shot that came off the inside of the crossbar and down was ruled not to have crossed the line by the referee.
After the restart with a win still in sight for England they started strong with multiple shots on goal that failed to go in. The final nail in the coffin for England came minutes later when Mueller again finished the play from a break and an over committed English attack. Ozil outpaced the English midfeild in the counter attack and passed to Meuller to finish off a simple side footed shot at close range passed the helpless England keeper.
This is how the game ended with England failing to make any conversions of the chances they had.
