Netherlands dropped 5 times FIFA World Cup Winners out of this years tournament coming from a goal down to win 2-1. Thus depriving the south Americans of the chance to win a sixth crown and ending their unbeaten record of winning every match since last October.

The first half saw Brazil dominate the match drawing the first blood at the 10 minute mark when Robinho converted a halfway line pass from Felipe Melo and, free of is marker, Robinho collected the ball and pushed the ball past Maarten Stekelenburg. Despite some great efforts to provide an immediate reply the first half was to end with Brazil in confident form and 1-0 in the lead.

After the restart the game began to pick up pace and looked set to provide a deluge of goals, reminiscent of the 1994 quarter final when the teams provided 5 goals in the second half. Barely 8 minutes into the second half the Netherlands drew level when after a free kick into the box Felipe Melo, distracted by Julio Cesar managed to flick the ball into his own goal.

With Brazil looking less confident than the first 45 minutes the Netherlands pressured them more and in the 68th minute Wesley Sneijder headed home a pass from Kuyt after Robben crossed the ball in from the corner. With the Netherlands now in charge and in the lead Brazil’s misery was deepened when Felipe Melo was sent off after stamping on Robben with 17 minutes to go. Despite a few desperate attempts the Netherlands maintained their lead until the final whistle and thus ended the Brazilian’s FIFA World Cup 2010 campaign.
