FIFA World Cup 2010 Super Friday Group H Final Results

The Result’s

Chile 1-2 Spain
Switzerland 0-0 Honduras

In a group that under certain permutations would allow any one of the teams to advance the only ones more or less assured were Chile after winning there 2 first match’s. Their only real danger would have been from a goal difference should they lose, as they did, and Switzerland were to beat Honduras. As we now know Spain and Chile will advance to the final 16.

In the Chile – Spain match we saw a return to form in the Spanish and in the 24th minute David Villa curl in a 40 yard goal when he picked off a badly placed clearance from the Chilian keeper. Just 13 minutes later Spain increased their lead to 2 when Andres Iniesta converted a pass from Villa.

After a quick re think of their strategy by the Chilian coach during the half time break Rodrigo Millar struck back in the 47th minute after his shot deflected off Gerard Pique and passed the Spanish goalkeeper to bring the Chilians back into the game. This was only flash in the pan though as for the remainder of the game they could not break the Spanish down to score again.

In the other match between Switzerland and Honduras were the Swiss needed a win to have any hope of advancing to the next round. The match lacked the imagination that both teams have shown they are capable of and as a consequence ended as a goalless draw which served niether team any help to advance.
