FIFA World Cup 2010 Super Friday Group G Final Results Brazil and Portugal Advance
Portugal 0-0 Brazil
Korea DPR 0-3 Côte d’Ivoire
This afternoon’s match’s have led to what most thought would be a predictable group final standing with Brazil and Portugal advancing and Côte d’Ivoire and Korea DPR being eliminated from this years tournament.
Côte d’Ivoire knew going into their game that they would need a 9 goal advantage and for Brazil to beat Portugal in order to advance and the match showed they were determined to attempt this very feat. Yaya Toure opened their gambit in the 14th minute as The Elephants dominated the match. Barely 6 minutes later Romaric provided the second if they could kept that pace of goal scoring up then they may have reached their target. However that was the last of the flurries of goal’s and the next did not occur until the 82nd minute when Salomon Kalou touched in Boka’s cross all to little to late as far as advancement is concerned.
In the other match Brazil and Portugal failed to provide any goals and the match ended in a perhaps predictable manner with a goal less draw which suited both teams to advance. Although in truth even if Brazil had triumphed this afternoon then it would have needed to be a substantial margin in order to allow Côte d’Ivoire to advance on goal difference.
This means that Brazil will meet the second place team in group H in the next round and Portugal will meet the winners of group H in the next round.
