FIFA World Cup 2010 Super Friday Group G Final Match’s
Korea DPR-Côte d’Ivoire, Group G, Nelspruit
Portugal-Brazil, Group G, Durban
The two goliaths of group G meet today both with a no loss record in 2010 so far unless Brazil beat Portugal by a substantial amount of goals and Côte d’Ivoire win with a substantial goal difference then Brazil and Portugal are assured a place in the final 16. The Brazil – Portugal match will no doubt still be a display not to be missed.
“It’s another tough match, like every World Cup game. Our plan is to keep getting stronger with each game, like we did in 2002 (in Korea/Japan). In terms of technical ability, Portugal are on a par with Brazil. Cristiano Ronaldo is a great player, but we don’t intend to man-mark him. We’ll have to keep an eye on all their players,” Lucio, Brazil captain and centre-back
Côte d’Ivoire face Korea DPR in their final match and whilst Korea are definitely resigned to a trip home after this match whatever the result. They will be looking to go home from only their second appearance in FIFA World Cup tournament with their heads held high and at least one win under their belt. Côte d’Ivoire will however be pushing for the almost impossible task of overcoming their 7 goal deficit to place themselves in a position of possible advancement should Brazil beat Portugal.
“We wanted to qualify. We’ve still got a chance, but it’s complicated. We’ll go out on the pitch with the sole ambition of winning and scoring as many goals as possible – between seven and nine. We’ll give everything we have and perhaps we’ll end up making it. In football, you never know,” Didier Zokora, Côte d’Ivoire defender.
